Any ideas on What it might be (?)
 | Plant lover? Flower expert? Here's a tough one ... Most people are dumbfounded and say "must be some kind of orchid..."? Having searched the www high and low, I can find nothing that resembles what has emerged from this normally staid and ugly plant... Just a pot full of dull & lifeless leaves that year after year, do nothing as it sits amid our small collection of relatively ordinary orchids. In 2002 it produced the flower that you see in the photograph. January 2009 and it was discovered to have 2 buds. Like miniature coconuts - each half the size of a clenched fist. Now Both are bursting forth and the fragrance is incredible. It permeates the entire house and suggests an extravagant use of perfume worn by some Tart who's just breezed through; And thankfully, didn't stay too long... Up close, in fact, you'd be inclined to draw back a little - as the effect is a bit nauseating. Not a "Stink" exactly; More of an overpowering musk-stick-lolly-smelling-bloke's-deodorant... and that armpit just a bit too close for comfort. Any thoughts please??? |
